Statement

My art is focusing on nature, and the creatures around the world. The fascination in history and culture formed after an art history course I took. Specifically ancient Egyptian art by the use of hieroglyphs and vibrant colors placed upon the forms. The inspirations for my work are the beliefs in the after-life which some cultures have differences and similarities between them. Especially the way hieroglyphs were a writing system, using pictures and symbols. The people, animals, or birds always face the beginning to tell you where a sentence starts. Working with this new found knowledge, my work began to flourish. The techniques I use are hand-building, throwing on the wheel, engraving on the surface, and surface building on the clay using slip. Through my art I create a whimsical feeling to make the piece feel alive with movement. To leave the viewer with curiosity, with questions needing to be answered about the culture or subject at hand. The other inspiration in my work ties into the movement and harmony of creatures in nature, which mesmerized me as a child while watching movies and still holds true today. My process starts by envisioning a scene using the things around me, followed by research done on a specific cultural, concept or theme. For how to bring my idea to life and the surface I’m using to support it. The materials I use are really based on the vision chosen to bring
it to the surface, while using the certain colors, tools, and texture to really capture the experience or meaning. My goal for my art work is to bring more love to historical cultures, while also invoking thoughts, and sharing the beauty in each form. What sets my work apart from others is while my forms each have their own distinctive theme, and concept the main conclusion is to show a captivating work of art, all the while still having that intriguing aspect shine through the art.
